Xavi vs Gerrard

When it comes to reading a game and passing, nobody in the world can beat Xavi. He is in the centre of every single Barcelona/Spain attack.

Gerrard on the other hand, is brilliant in driving his team foward. Plays with his heart and links up well with the fowards. He scores alot of goals compared to Xavi who is more of a creator than a goal machine.

Some people say that Xavi has the best technique in the world and that nobody can control the pace of a game like he does.

I feel Gerrard is more phyiscal, makes amazing runs which results in goals. He is much quicker than Xavi who sometimes looks like he is playing in slow motion.

With that said, i feel that when Xavi doesnt play for Barcelona it is evident that their is a MASSIVE gap in the team. When Gerrard doesnt play for Liverpool it is evident that their is a MASSIVE gap in the team as well.

When Xavi doesnt play for Spain it is evident that their is a MASSIVE gap in the team BUT when Gerrard doesnt play for England - that gap is easily filled.

So who do you think is the better midfielder?

Gerrard is the better midfielder. I would compare Xavi to Xabi Alonso instead. Think you've got your assesments of both layers spot on though.

The difference between Xavi and Gerrard at International level is that Gerrard never gets to play in his natural position for Enland. I mean the guys playing at LW under Capello now.
Put Gerrard in the centre(leave lumpard on the bench) then you will see Gerrard shine for England.

I think both players are phenomenal but i have to go for Stevie G as he influences games more than xavi for me

another thing that sways me to stevies corner stevie can play like xavi no problem ,but xavi can never play like stevie

they are both fantastic players tho

I'd take Gerrard. Better all round player. Passing may not be up to Xavi's standered but he's superior in everything else. There is more to football than just technique.

Ya, i was tempted to compare Xavi to Alonso rather but i dont think it is a fair comparison. Xavi totally owns Alonso.

Xavi is sort of a Gerrard for Barcelona. He has been with the club all his life, he is Catalan - the fans love him, he is part of the makeup of the club.

Can't argue with that.

Even for Liverpool Alonso is a more skillfull player with better vison and passing ability compared to Gerrard. But when it comes to all round ability Gerrard is the better player.
