The XB1 elite bundle will have a 1TB SSHD.

Since I have a 1TB SSHD at home collecting dust, this weekend I will be attempting to replace the 500GB in my console.

I've seen a video of someone replacing the drive (Below) and it looks simple enough.

The only catch being that I will be using a 3.5" drive instead of 2.5" that is in the xbox currently so I will have to find a way to mount it securely.
There seems to be a sufficient amount of space and Im sure powering the drive won't be a problem.

Just watch the heat as normal 3.5 drives can run a fair bit hotter.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about the xbone internals.

Something to consider though is that 3.5" drives use both 5V & 12V supply voltages so you will have to ensure the existing SATA power connector does have a 12V supply from the xbone motherboard or psu. 2.5" drives only use a 5V feed.
Secondly 3.5" drives have higher current requirements so you will have to be sure the xbone can supply that higher current on the sata power connector.

You'd have to check up on those two things before proceeding.

If you wanna upgrade your hard drive, I say get an external instead. Got a 4TB WD and it was just so much more worth it.

Also you lose warranty opening the Xbox.

There are 2 things that I found when looking into replacing my hard drive with a much faster one

1. The new hdd must be SATA2 compatible as the xbox one does not support SATA3
2. According to some people on the internet the hdd needs to be formatted and partitioned in a certain way. See below link for one example

The other option is the media hub from Collective Minds

Yup the drive needs to be formatted but that is quite easy to do. I tested with a 2.5" that I formatted while connected externally and then fitted internally.
Works fine.

Warranty is over anyway and I already opened it :P
Also I have an external plugged into it at the moment and don't like the clutter.

Power was eventually my only problem.
Have to go with 2.5" unfortunately :(

Thanks for all the tips and stuff guys :P

Only saw them after going ahead though.
When it comes to fiddling with gadgets, I normally just go for it.

I've dismantled loads of laptops in my lifetime and compared to that, taking the xbox apart was a breeze.

Ended up getting it working with a 500GB 2.5" drive just to test and it worked perfectly.
Will be getting a 2.5" 1TB SSHD as what will be installed in the XB1 Elite sometime in the near future and see how that goes :)

You could probably 'hack' it if you can find a 12V feed somewhere inside the xb1. Would require some soldering etc but guys did this with the 360. I think the xb1 has 5v & 12v psu feeds according to a quick google.

The output from MB actually has 12V and 5V feeds but the sata power connector which plugs into the drive is missing points 13-15 as found in the image below which carries 12v current to the drive.

Getting it to work will then be as simple as cutting a sata power connector of one of the PSUs i have lying around and connecting the other end to the socket that fits onto the MB but I don't feel the need to go that far.
Rather just going to play it safe and get another 2.5" :)
