Xbmc for android coming soon

Hi all,

A pre-beta of this is available to download. Found it on NZBMatrix. File name = xbmcapp-armeabi-v7a-debug-20120714.apk.

Will see if I can upload it somewhere.

Cheers,

Looks great. They've done a sort of 1:1 port, so it hasn't been modified for the touch smartphone experience. Clicking is a problem coz it mostly picks up as a swipe.

It won't be long now though. Works exactly as it does elsewhere. Added media sources. Library updated. Hopefully they integrate the remote into the player as well.

I currently use upnp to stream from my laptop to the phone via wifi. Can this app use the wifi network to search for drives via wifi or am I better off using upnp?

Have you used xbmc before? It's designed to access a media library with meta data, whether it be local or on the network. The android app itself hasn't yet being released, and there are still a few issues. So stick to what you have, but keep an eye out for this.

I am gonna be flamed for this I know but

XBMC on my iPad is waaaaaay better than this piece of crap, can see why its not even beta stage yet :(

Yeah I've used it plenty. Very accustomed to it all, but I know that it requires either a NAS, networked storage or a physical drive connected to it, hence my question whether I'll be able to add my hard drive across the wifi network and carry on as usual...?

Sorry for noobiness, but is XBMC like TVersity? i.e. your Xbox (and other devices, like Android now) can play the video/music library that is on your PC, as long as you are connected on the same network?
