Let's start a thread on decent XBMC plugins. Please post name, repository and what they can do :)

I'm not using many, just the standard radio and youtube... There used to be some good streaming ones a while back but most stopped working. Anyone know of anything decent for sopcast or streamtorrent?

Yep tried Navi-X and just hangs...

Am using Fusion though and it's quite nice. Lots of movies, series, stand-ups (when my connection allows it lol) and few others to be found in this repository

Plugins that I use:

PseudoTV with various different skins for now playing and EPG
Youtube for trailers
Aeon Nox which I suppose is a skin but comes with some great plugins of its own
Sportsdevil for watching live sports. Sometimes have to search for a decent stream but work most of the time for sports I'm interested in.

That's about it. Hardly use any other plugins. I have Navi-X but I download what I want and streaming is unreliable with my dodgy 2MB connection.

I used to enjoy live tv with SuperTV but it doesn't appear to be working these days...

pseudo tv, though my box is too slow to handle it properly
rom collection browser
advanced launcher
using the metropolis skin at the moment

I found two incredible Plugins on Fusion. But I will have to go check on my machine at home to tell you guys exactly where it is and on what Repos they are. The one is a World News Plugin. It gives you; CNN, BBC World/News (two different things), Sky News, EuroNews, France24, Aljazeera and some others I can't think of now. If you want your local news fix, you even have eNCA.

The other Plugin is Offside streams. I basically get my live sport fix there. It got the Sky Sport channels 1 -4, Sky F1, TSN, TSN2 ESPN and some others I can't think of now. The only catch is that it's not free, it costs about £4 per month or R60.

Both these work very well and quality of the streams is top notch. Comparable to 480p videos on Youtube. It really kicks Sportsdevil (My backup) in the nads.

There are drawbacks, the Offside streams service do sometimes go down, but it is usually sorted pretty quickly. Also, you need at least 4Mb line to run it, because of the good quality, it runs at a slightly higher bitrate than anything else. I tested throughput and downloads on the machine is about 150 - 200kB/s, but there are spikes to 320kB/s.

I can now add IPTVSimple plugin which is a PVR for online streams. Using it with Futubox to get streams in HD. Works great!

How does that PVR plugins work. I've tried to find some information on it, but I really don't understand it. The biggest problem with XBMC is that most people on those dedicated forums assume you know everything already. And they speak in Ones and Zeros, and I don't understand that language.

Oh boy... It's complicated. Too much too explain in a simple post. Best advice is to experiment and read as much as possible. But in a nutshell the PVR plugins work like a normal PVR. You record to your harddrive and have a TV guide. As in input you can have a TV tuner or streams. And you need a separate provider for the TV guide. The plugin combines the two to give you a TV like experience

Find below link to a doc i prepared on how to setup IPTVSimple plugin with futubox playlist and new epg data i generated yesterday. this can also be used for any other playlist. The playlist in the doc contains non-futubox streams.

I will experiment, a bit. The details from digitalp might come in handy. A question tho is, does it work with other streaming apps like Sportsdevil for instance. I fail to see how it connects. Unless you somehow create that playlist to link it together or something. Somehow I got used tot he PVR function of DsTV while watching sport. I'll have to add that I haven't been using XBMC for too long. About a month now.

Just using the normal addons, nothing special.
XBMC auto update is worth mentioning as I have not seen it mentioned, and I never switch off my HTPC, so update on start is a bit futile.

My machine is quite decent (Dual Core 8400, with 8gig RAM), but pseudoTV is still a bit laggy. So with the help of some of the xbmc community members, I create a addon that will take first 5 unwatched episodes of random episodes and create a playlist with them.

I then made this script to exclude sitcoms, and made another one for sitcoms.

So I have to scripts now, one to play 5 random sitcoms, one to play 5 random everything else's.

I then took it one step futher, and created a service, that will pop up for 5 seconds, when the new episode starts, to show the Show Name, Title and episode number.

Dunno if some one will have a need for this, of so, i will post the code.

Sounds great, can you explain how to do this, or point me in the right direction?

How do you get it to stream in HD?

Do a guide on setting up the download of the epg :/ mine times out to frequently, one day I have a guide, the next day I don't.

How to generate EPG data.

To do this, I use two apps:

Webgrab+

XMLTV GUI

Grabbing with Webgrab+

I have setup the config files for webgrab+ already so you don’t I have to do any work but if you want to know how to setup the config, let me know and I will show you. It’s a long process though.

Download and install webgrab+ from here:

http://webgrabplus.com/

Download this file:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/gymz21hb4lgf0qy/WebGrab.rar

extract the file to C:\ProgramData\ServerCare\ (windows 8 only)

go to C:\ProgramData\ServerCare\webgrab\ and open the file “WebGrab++.config.xml”

Search for string

<filename>C:\ProgramData\ServerCare\WebGrab\theguide.xml</filename> and change the location where you want the epg to be saved when generated. Example

<filename>C:\epg\theguide.xml</filename>

Save and run webgrab+plus.exe to generate the epg data.

Grabbing using XMLTV GUI

Download and install XMLTV GUI from here:

http://www.birtles.org.uk/xmltv/xmltvgui_3.14.01W.exe

Run it and click on tools and select settings.

Set your time zone and location to save epg under the XML tab

Click on grabbers and select the UK_RT grabber

Under grabber details, select channels and choose all English channels on the Futubox playlist. And save.

Under grabbers still, select XMLTV Import and choose the file generated above with webgrab+plus.

Click on ok and go back to the main view.

Click on grab listings to start grabbing.

When done, import epg data generated into pvr:iptvsimple addon together with the modified playlist I created.

Hope this helps.

Awesome thread - I will add my setup once I have migrated back to a proper HTPC (This weekend)
