I think there is a market for instant media solutions because of people like me ... I found this HP microsever/XBMC to be a tad more complex than I thought initially :/

That said, installed extra RAM and the graphics card (with the correct bracket) and double checked connections - great! Battled to install OpenElec - so tried XBMCBunto and managed to get that to work.

Slotted another HDD into the HP server ... and battled to add media. There are no drive letters or anything to work with - BUT just been into SYSTEM > STORAGE and notice it's not even listing the new drive.

It's NTFS and was formatted with Windows 7 and contains a few movies. Is there a certain directory that they need to be in? Other requirements for XBMC to see the drive and allow me to add?

I'm not a big fan of XBMCBuntu, tried it for a while but OpenElec is a much more refined option.

What issues you having with OpenElec? I have it running on my MicroServer and was a breeze to install.

It wasn't booting up for whatever reason ... put it on the USB and it wouldn't boot up. I'll try again - BUT want to at least SEE this thing work first ;)

PS BIOS picks it up ... so it's are physically installed.

EDIT : Please don't tell me it doesn't read NTFS!

It should read ntfs but you will most likely need mount the drive first before its available.

Well, AFAIK it doesn't read NTFS as it's a Microsoft technology. If I remember correctly, I had to format the drive to FAT32 for it to be able to work and reformat to something more Linux-y

But technology changes all the time, so their website might help?

As long as you have the ntfs-3g package installed it will read ntfs drives. I would think that it would be installed by default.

I'm thinking just installing it over Window ... Discovered my sound doesn't work either

Thanks guys
