I connect my XBOX 360 to my NETGEAR FVS 318 Firewall router with a straight througs CAT 5 cable but is not getting an IP address. If I remove the cable from the XBOX and connect it to a laptop I get an address, so the cable is good and my router is giving out addresses. When ever I connect the cable to the XBOX and turn on the power I get an activits light on my router but the XBOX is not showing up as an attached device on my routes. I even tried assign and address manually but nothing works. What is the problem here.

No you don't.... the 360 acts like a normal network device, and would need a normally configured CAT5 cable

What you probably have unfortunately is a busted ethernet port on your 360.. Mine is the same....

Try entering a static IP address on your xbox instead of leaving it as dynamic in case your router doesn't assign automatically.

I tried assigning a static IP I even tried a cross over cable. But why am I getting a link light on the port and no IP address? I think I've got a busted internal NIC but the link light is puzzling me.

May I suggest you buy a second hand wireless device from a retailer such as Games X-etra?
