hey there xbox 360 geniuses

2 questions

firstly, i just got an xbox 360 pro system last saturday (hell yeah) and have been hearing all this talk about the cooling system (which im sure is old news by now) and the problems it has with cooling. i keep my xbox on a tile floor so its well ventilated. just wondering if there is anything else i could do to make sure it does not overheat cuz i frikken love the thing too much (sad but true)

i did see a cooling thing at a reggies or toys are us for R80? but im cautious

secondly, i keep reading about updates and firmware and stuff like that. being a newcomer, i have no frikken idea what the hell everyone is talking about. fill me in.

i did download the update to play old xbox games (halo and halo 2 hear we come). so im assuming thats part of the whole thing

anyway

rest in peace playstation 2, there is a new sheriff in town (lame)

There are a couple of external cooling solutions that actually just cause more harm than good (something about it drawing too much power from the components) so watch out for those. I've had my xbox for about 7months now without any extras and it hasn't given me any hassles!

About the updates: when you hook your xbox up to the internet and xbox live it automatically downloads the updates.

Don't add any extra cooling options. They theoretically void your warranty and have not been proven to make a blind bit of difference. On a tiled floor with 5-10 cm behind it and you are fine.

The updates are done automatically by Live when you connect to the internet. You can't choose them and you can't roll back and still play on Live.

The updates do countless different things and generally only happen twice year. Specific games can be updated at any time to either improve them or fix known bugs...

If you are on Live then go paste your gamertag in the gamertag thread and join us online :D

thanks so much guys
frikken awsome knowing i can rest easy now
i gona avoid add on cooler like the plague

you gotta have broadband to play live right

i know im full of questions

is it better to stand the xbox upright or flat

im being finicky

in know

but its all in the name of love

Lay it flat. If your Xbox 360 moves while a disc is spinning it will destroy your disc. Less chance of it falling while lying flat...

Treat it like a lady, unfortunately these things are quite delicate

shot gavinmannion

you helping alot of guys out

i posted another thread with regards to carpet flooring and what to stand the box on in the event of carpet flooring
