I finally got my new monitor. B2330H. It looks awesome however there is no sound. The monitor has an external output for speaker, which I have inserted. I am not using an official HDMI cable, not sure if that matters? I really don't know what the problem could be. Any help is appreciated.

I just had a look on the Dashboard and it says DVI. I'm using a HDMI cable though...

It could be the HDMi cable. Some versions of HDMI cable don't carry sound. Try the Ellies HDMI cables from Game. If it still gives a hassle then atleast you know within 7 days you can get your money back.

My Xbox has the same issue. Tried 3 different cables. Also no sound. All I get is pc resolutions, no HDMI 720p settings as I do with my component. My tv's HDMI channel picks it up as DVI.

I suspect it's my tv, since the same cables don't bring up anything for the PS3 ... but works fine on another tv.

DVI/HDMI does not carry sound. Do you have 2 HDMI ports? Like mine has HDMI/DVI and HDMI2. Only HDMI 2 carries sound.

Got it working! Tried a different HDMI cable and now its all good :). The Ellies cable doesn't seem to carry sound, nor does the Xbox show HDMI with it.

Perhaps let us know which cable you're using, in case others have the same problem? :)

In all honesty, I'm not overly bothered.

With component I still get my 720p/1080p resolution on my tv with the same glossy feel to it as an hdmi cable ... the bonus being that I can run my sound from the component cables through my Logitek G5.1 setup (sadly no optical input port) for both xbox and ps3...which allows me to then play console games's sound through my headphones late at night as well.

The issue here is that there are different versions of HDMI cable. Some of the older standards don't carry sound.

@dal2000- So hows the screen for gaming? Dynamic Contrast any good?
Yeah I'm aware of the older versions not carrying sound, but it would be a nice gesture to let people know which one he is using. You know, like go down to this shop and get this cable and it should work. It may not necessarily be the best technical advice, but it might help a few noobs.

A friend of mine tells me that he is using a Wharfedale HDMI cable and it's carrying both picture and sound perfectly from his xbox to his LCD TV.

The monitor is excellent, the contrast/HDMI Black level is outstanding. IMO this monitor is perfect :). The cable I'm using is the one that you get with your HD Decoder.

For R1700.00 you really can't go wrong. I would gladly pay 2.5k for it.
