Xbox 360 hook up to av reciever

Hi....need some advise on this. I have a Sony HT-M5 AVR. What is advisable......hooking up the xbox hdmi cable directly to the tv and use the optical out to the AVR for audio. Or hooking up the xbox via the hdmi to run both video and audio via the AVR?

Unlikely. Both are digital and the 360 can't produce any of the higher fidelity HDMI-only formats anyway.
