Dunno, probably use USB based storage - if it can (i think).

Maybe they would use online storage for game caching or something.

Multiple disks.
Downgrade quality.
Future technologies.
Downloads.

:D

Many solutions offered by fanbois but as yet nothing concrete from M$

I'd rather Microsoft focussed on making hardware that didn't break before they went desinging it smaller.

There's no real need to add BluRay right now to the X360. But for their next gen console they'll have to do something. The quality of games are increasing rapidly...... and so is the size of them.

The valhalla 360 chipset is due around the middle of the year and since valhalla will have the GPU & CPU on one single chip manufacturing cost will be alot cheaper. There where rumours about the smaller 360 in 07 already when the falcon processors came out.

I think they'll go with Flash storage ....... I'm sure it's already been in an article? No discs at all then :)

Since when was multiple disks ever a problem ? Ps1 and PS2 games came on multi discs and it was never a problem but if an xbox 360 game comes on it then its a big problem ? I'll rather have a game on multiple disc than have a game taking up 10 - 20 gigs of precious Hard disc space for a DUMB mandatory install.

Why does quality have to have to be downgraded ! last tym i checked almost every single multiplat game pawned the ps3 versions, quite ironic considering the xbox uses a so called inferior dvd 9gig dvd disc and the ps3 has 50 gig blu rays for textures ?

Why not use flash drives? Increase the speed to USB 5.8cs :p and use 16gb flash disks for games and expand as needed. They could also create a good marketing strategy cause say for instance you buy GTA4 on a 16gb flash disk for R800. You then have the option to copy it to your HDD so you will always have the game and then you score a 16gb flash disks aswell.

If that were possible we would have to keep it on the flash drive to prevent piracy.

Ja, as it is Microsoft has many issues with piracy.

SSD storage is an option. In the next 10 years we could find 500GB litterally soldered on the board.

I also think digital distribution is the future. It can help reduce piracy by quite a bit. If it's possible to ban a specific Xbox from Live - then digital distribution is an option.

That being said, I think the days of the optical drive are limited...

:)

I still dig the blu-ray on ma PS3, though.

I just think that too few people HATE multiple discs for games.

Unfortunately this is where I'll have to disagree heavily (sorry) on two points.

First is the digital distribution crap. If this is the future of gaming then I'm seriously going back to my megadrive because spending money on something I can't physically hold in my hand sucks. Also I can't resell it if it's a really crap game, collectors editions will be useless, my shelf would look empty, and I won't be able to just borrow out the game or anything. DD sucks big time IMO. I don't mind DD for smaller games or DLC but for full retail products it's just crap. Better start my disc/cartridge collection while I still can.

The second point is blu-ray ...at this point this would be the last thing I want in my console... They need to get the whole disc speed data transfer thing sorted because this is just stupid...

Assassin's Creed--------(Required) 1.3Gb
Devil May Cry 4--------(Required) 4.83 GB
Dark Sector ------------(Required) 1.2 GB
Dynasty Warriors 6-----(Optional) 1.86GB
Eye of Judgement---------(Required) 1.9GB
Folklore-------------------(Optional) 1.04GB
GTA IV-------------------(Required) 3.3 GB
GT5 Prologue-----------(Required) 5.24GB
Genji: Days of Blade---(Optional) 2.14GB
Haze --------------------(Required) 4.0 GB
Hot Shots Golf 5 - ------(Required) 3.61Gb
Heavenly Sword--------(Required) 2.1GB
Medal Of Honor:Airborne-(Required) 1.95 GB
Metal Gear Solid 4-----(Required) 4.6GB
Ninja Gaiden Sigma-----(Optional) 3.3Gb
Oblivion---------------------(Required) 4.6GB
Oblivion GOTY--------------(Required) 5+GB
Ratchet & Clank Future-(Required) 0.42GB
Resistance: Fall of Man--(Required) 0.22GB
Ridge Racer 7 -------------(Optional) 5GB
Spiderman 3---------------(Required) 2.6Gb
Time Crisis 4---------------(Optional) 2.45GB
Unreal Tournament 3 -(Optional) 2.4GB

Remember, that the consoles we talk about are 10 years in the future...

At that rate internet speeds are fast enough to allow for DD. Piracy would be massively reduced through such measures.

WRT blu ray transfer speeds, they are faster than single sided DVD anyway (even with it's 2x speed).

I honestly believe Microsoft and Sony will look to expand their Networks to more DD than currently. Look how well Steam is doing..

My only worry is our lack of broadband - and no, I don't think quasi-4Mb is broadband.

I don’t know how many times I have to respond to this, multiplats will always favour the Xbox, Devs code from the ground up on the Xbox and then just port to the PS3, thus its not the PS3 hardware, but rather development/porting issues that makes the multiplats on the PS3 inferior.

Look at Burnout paradise, it’s a multiplat but was developed from the ground up for each console, not ported and if I’m not mistken the PS3 got the edge there.

A lot of people are saying that DVD9 is sufficient at the moment, its not.
The devs have develop multiplat games with the lowest common denominator in mind, the Xbox 360’s DVD9.

PS3 devs might not be filling a blu-ray disk up at the moment, but the possibility is there, they are not limited, my personal opinion is that DVD9 is holding multiplat games back.

No burnout paradise was ported from the ps3 to the xbox 360 ! it wasnt a duel developed game like pure

Put simply, this is the first truly 'next-gen' game that truly is 99.9 percent identical across both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; the first title I've looked at for these features that raises the bar technically on both formats, offering the complete, full-fat experience, nothing added, nothing taken away.

@ Churchill, what edge? And if what you say is true (I see Dohc-WP has stated otherwise) and if both console got their 'own' version, why isn't the ps3 version blowing the xbox out of the water as the fanbois claim its so much better

Like i said, have to develop the game for lowest common denominator (DVD9)

If the devs had created Burnout with blu-ray in mind the Xbox version would not be the same game, MS would not like that.

It would have been to different games, burnout paradise for Xbox and burnout universe for the PS3.

Some Extra sauce...

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=92772

It is not secret that the PS3 was the lead platform for Burnout Paradise and the following video indicates that perhaps as a result the Xbox 360 will experience some slightdowns as a result in comparison to the PS3...

http://www.videogamer.com/features/article/22-01-2008-267.html

Verdict:
To say this is a tight one is an understatement. Rampant fanboyism on the internet would have you believe that the PlayStation 3 game looks significantly better than the Xbox 360 game, and that simply isn't the case. We've played both for an extended period of time and unless you're looking for differences you won't see any. The PS3 game wins, but it's by the smallest margin.

Final Score
OK. Because we have to make a choice over which version is best (that is the point of the feature after all) we're declaring the Xbox 360 version the winner. While the PS3 game edges things by a fraction in the visuals department, the Xbox 360 game marginally wins out in a few other areas, tipping the scales its way every so slightly.

I guess I really have to play the ps3 version, as I can't see the difference in the video you linked or the screenshots in the article I linked
