I've heard people talking about mods in the Xbox360. Can anyone tell me qhat types of mods you get and what they do, I feel noobish asking this but oh well.

Well you have several type of mods actually.

To play "backup" copies of games involves flashing the dvd-rom drive's firmware or installing a modchip.

Many people find that the cooling system is inadequate in the xbox 360, so they add fans and modify it to be externally powered, or powered via the xbox's PSU or USB ports. There are 3rd party fans you can add (check out divineo.com) that has LED lights and are quieter in many ways.

You can add a window to the top of the case to see the insides of the 360, and add LED lights around the perimetre to give a nice effect, especially at night. A popular mod is to add a window to the dvd-rom drive so that you can see the disc spinning inside.

You can also buy 3rd party cases to give the case another look besides the standard off-white of the arcade/premium or the black of the elite.

I'll be doing my own mod once I have all the parts/accessories I need. So far I've done x-clamp replacements and spray paint of the case to practice for more intricate mods I intend to do.

I hope that helps. Its a nice hobby to have :)

Cheers

By " backup" you mean a copy that you make for yourself so that the orginal copy that you bought doesn't get damaged?

Before you get excited, be warned Microsoft is fully aware of people modding 360s and if you connect to live there is a high likelyhood your 360 will get "bricked" by the powers that be. Once the console is reported it can never go on live again.

Hence why I'm speaking about the more practical mods doobiwan like case mods and the like.

Taking chances with firmware flashing and so forth is asking for trouble in terms of Live ;)

i was wondering the same thing, because normally on appliances there is a sticker that says something like, warranty void if sticker is broken

Technically yes. Thats why you give the warranty sticker, the hair-dryer treatment to pry it off. Then stick it back on when needed ;)

I've quite a bit of experience with this :D

lol....

... i should look into "testing" that

i see you get those forza (or whatever the racing game is called) covers being sold, that might be my first step in modding.... :D

lol @ Kage ...

Take the original case apart as neatly as you can. When you take the faceplate off, borrow a hairdryer from the wife/girlfriend/mistress/sister ... apply heat evenly over the MS warranty sticker and slide it off with a pocket knife or something similar that has a flat surface. Store it somewhere safe :)

Then put the aftermarket case on ... you're good to go :D

If you spray paint you original case, then you're on your own. I only do that to RROD unit's that I repair, no worries about guarantees. Controllers and hard drives aren't an issue, they're only have a 1 yr guarentee ;)

Off-white and matte black aren't the only colours in the world ... Microsoft
