Yeah it sucks... but at least we are getting it this time around....

No importing from overseas only to receive a bad batch and having to send it back.... the UK is also delayed to the 12th I think...

But the graphics of Epic Games’ masterpiece for the 360 are not the only thing pushing this game in to the upper strata of all-time great games (yeah, I said it.)

Maybe you should get to understand a bit more about how it works. It IS monopolistic because you cannot just go develop stuff for e.g. a PS - you HAVE to distribute through or with the blessing of the manufacturer and they sure take their cut. Been that way since the NES. Are are you just a bit too young to know about all that?

You obviously didn't take the advice. So let me fill you in - a monopoly is when there is no viable choice; there is only one provider. If the Xbox was the only console around and it dominated the market then it would be a monopoly. But the ps and wii are clearly contenders so no, this is not a monopoly.

You are correct that you're locked into your particular hardware, but only some games are locked to a single platform. Many come out for all consoles and the PC.

Things have improved from the time when local PS2 games that cost $40 were as much as R600 (more when the exchange got bad). Back then PS2 was essentially the only console in town.

I see what you're trying to say - but that does not qualify as 'n monopoly though. One of the reasons why the games may be more expensive on the XBOX is because there is a smaller market, hence they have to sell it at a higher price to make the same profit as with PC games.

I discover a cure for HIV/AIDS in the form of a pill not too difficult to cook up. I patent it, copyright it, trademark it etc etc. I offer it at R1,000,000-00c per course. You pay R2700 for an xbox 360, which has all the power of a R10k PC rig, because MS is subsidising it for you, to make you life easier. So they make a few bonus $$ back on each game, rather that than taking a PC on credit and crying 2 years down the line when you're still paying for your obsolete box.
