Hi - hoping someone might be able to help me solve this.

I recently bought a Sony KLV-40S550 TV. On hooking my Xbox up to it via HDMI, I get no picture (or sound) from the Xbox. This same console and cable worked perfectly with my old TV (a Samsung LCD). I know the Xbox is on and working, as if I use the correct combination of controller actions blindly, I can switch it off, or eject the tray, etc.

I've tried a different HDMI port on the TV, I've tried a different cable, I've confirmed that my multimedia player works on the same cable and the same HDMI port. I can hook the Xbox up to my PC monitor with HDMI no problems so I know the HDMI port is working.

I've tried the Y button + RT display settings reset trick, I've tried setting to a lower resolution on the Xbox when connected to my monitor and then connecting to the Tv, I've tried the HDMI colour space thing using the same method. I've tried writing down the controller actions to change resolution and whatnot and doing them blind while connected to the new TV - absolutely no change. Not even a flicker, just a black screen. It's not just a video problem, as no sound comes through either - it's like the TV is just ignoring the HDMI connection from the Xbox.

If I connect the Xbox via the HD Component cables, it works perfectly with the new TV. I would however like to get HDMI working though, as I feel the picture quality benefits from the digital connection.

My PS3, on the same cable and the same HDMI port, loads up instantly and looks amazing. I've been trying to get this working for the better half of a day and it's driving me insane.

Anyone have any ideas for me please?

Hi

I have exactly the same issue (and exactly the same TV), it was working for a week, then just stopped,
I tested a ps3 and my pc on the tv, and it works fine both on hdmi,
also tested my xbox on 2 other tv's through hdmi, and it worked fine, with sound.
Ive tried blindly left left right up up :) to change settings, but nothing worked,
changed resolution and refresh rate etc, hot swopping the hdmi cable, leaving both off for 24 hours,
factory reset on the tv and xbox, the works.

so for now im on the VGA connector

I don't know the xbox at all, but is there not a firmware update maybe? If you are on the latest firware, then is there not an xbox specific forum, or try a google search? Seems very stwange!

Hehe Wasp, I spent most of yesterday on Google searching through any thread that even resembled the problem trying to find a solution. Lots of people with the problem on other forums, but either they don't bother coming back and reporting their solution if they found one, or they don't find a solution and are forced into using the component cable too.

Vaalpens - yeah, it's frustrating as hell. I'll let you know if I find something, but so far nothing has panned out.

Sound more like a screen issue than a Xbox issue... Some incompatibility. Sorry, don't have the answer. Sony SA support maybe?

Create a thread on the local xbox 360 forum. Hopefully, someone can help you there. Or else take the TV back.

Yea - it sounds like a compatibilty issue, I'm afraid :/

What sequence do you turn them on? TV then Xbox or Xbox then TV a few seconds later? Does it make a difference? I've seen issues with the HDMI handshake and the sequence they're turned on.

PS I've heard HDMI and component are extremely similar anyway - so you're not losing anything by using component ...

Tried TV then Xbox, and Xbox then TV, neither makes a difference. You're right about the cables - I probably wouldn't be able to separate the two at a glance in a line-up - it just bugs me cos I KNOW it's there :)

Yeah, sorry couldn't offer any solid advice. Component is pretty much there, but i can understand your frustrations. I still think it's the Xbox, not yours in particular, just the Tech is older than the TV, so maybe they need to include in a firmware release. Similarly, but not, the mede8er had the same problems with the Sony V550, and the latest firmware solved the problem.
