Will games designated as NTSC work on XBOX bought in South Africa.

TIA

afaik there are no restrictions on games bought and sold on last-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft. The only difference is that some games are intended for a different language, so if you buy a game in China it may only be in Chinese (not that you can do that yet). This is true for PS3 that I know, and probably for X360 too. Most TV's and DVD players are cross-compatible for NTSC and PAL but there are region-locks on DVD's, so I assume the same is true for consoles and there are no region-locks there.

guess I was mistaken: The original Xbox as well as the Xbox 360 are region-locked, although it is up to the publisher if a game is region-free or not. A number of games are region-free and will play on a unit from any region. Digital content through Xbox Live are also region-locked, such as DLC, movies, and apps.

Depends on the game really.

Your Xbox can physically play NTSC no problem, but region locking is a other thing.

Also NTSC/PAL only applies to SD stuff. If you are using HD it's all one and the same standard.

Nope i made that mistake, there are like a few games that you can get in SA which will work, but not fifa or any of the main stream games. I just got mine flashed at the bright water commons, well waterfront back in the day, friend referred me there. Then games are R50 or R100 and you can download your own or JTAG it

Thanks all for the input, I think it will be safer not to bring a game back home and risk major disappointment.
