I have been looking at these Xboxes and need to know one thing, can it play DivX movies directly to an LCD TV via HDMI? I know you can view DVD's on it.

Also, what is the possibility of using it to record DStv? does this work without any other hardware - basically I am looking at a media centre type box with the added functionality of games. I also want to connect it to my network and copy ripped DVD's to it to view on the TV.

Will the Xbox work for this?
 
You haven`t looked very closely have you?

At the moment it does not have pvr capabilities and you can`t play divx files directly you have to convert them first.

The Xbox does not have HDMI.

You can stream movies through it from a Media Centre PC but they will be converted to WMV first

It is currently not a PVR, M$ have announced that it is coming to the 360 but we have no dates at all yet....

Personally I recommend you get yourself a Media Center box and then if you want to play games get a box for that :)... I don't think any of these all in one gadgets work very well personally.

No I have'nt :o Could not find what I was looking for on any reviews and wanted to make sure..

Thanks Gavin - I was looking at an LG DVD HDD recorder but I thought I might kill 2 birds with one stone..!
 
be careful dude, that LG doesn't do Hi-def either that HDD as in harddrive, NOT HD-DVD!!!

just because it has HDMI doesn't make it Hi def.

If you want a PVR that can do DSTV, buy the DSTV PVR, there aren't any others that can really do what it does.

Ya, I am well aware of the HDD and HD-DVD. I do have a PVR but need something to play DivX and store the files on a HD as well - Might settle on a plain normal player that does DivX however.
