So I've set up my Xbox 360 for Live and currently installing updates for the games when it informes me to do so...all the updates download successfully and the game starts as normal.

Altough there's one thing that bothers me (note I have 256mb Memory card only if that is relevant)

For the following I recieved updates...

Fable 2 (about 4-5 updates already)
Boom Boom Rocket (2-3 updates)
Feeding Frenzy (2 updates)
Sega Superstar Tennis (1 update)

It's it normal for the games to have so many updates such as Fable 2

sounds like something is repeating there .... wait for maestro, doobi or Dohc-WP or one of the other chaps to clarify though.

Fable 2 has bugs, so it will have quite a few updates in the coming weeks when you connect to Live.

In terms of the others, I don't have those games so I can't comment on the frequency of updates.

But it sounds like way too many updates for my liking

When you first put a game in, it will ask if you want to update, then does so from disc.

You will then get any other game updates via Live. But not with the frequency you're having

It could be that the fable updates requires a hdd for storage and not a memcard as the HDD and memcard have different directory structures.

But then it would inform me atleast...and the updates don't happen everytime I start up

all the updates are stored internally and are not accessable to the user, unless you clear your cache which deletes them. There is only so much space for updates so when space runs out the oldest update/game at bottom of playlist (not sure which one) has their updates removed, this could be causing it, but normally there is space for about 10+ updates.

As Nduimiso says. There is only a 4mb cache (i might be mistaken) for updates and updates vary from a couple of kilobytes to a megabyte or so for various games. I sucks I know and I wish MS would store game updates on the memory card rather than on the internal memory.

That doesn't sound right, I'm pretty sure it's all on the storage. Darkwater is it still saving your games okay? To me it sounds like a bit of a flakey MU.

All my games save perfect...just started up Fable 2 and no update atm

P.S. Where can I buy these Xbox drives (New) ...was looking at getting one but nobody seems to have stock either than the 20Gb  Where's the cheapest shop for 20GB and up anyway?

Edit: I see take 2 has 60Gb coming November...hmmm

20GB hard drives aren't available at retail anymore, it's been phased out.

MI Digital are taking their own sweet time to bring in new stock of 120GB hdd's.

Interesting that take2 are bringing in 60GB hard drives ... I should look at also sourcing stock :D

So if I got an HDD the updates will go onto it? I don't like the idea of the cache and having
to download updates again eventually, even if they are that small.

You can try bringing one in. Try DVDCrave.com, their 120Gb is pretty well priced.

Nope, no updates are written to the HDD unless they are actual marketplace items, and the internal memory is 16mb AFAIK.

Yip, agreed. Problem with a game like Crackdown (playing offline) is that if you have the DLC, and the update has been removed, then it just hangs. Time for them to store it on HDD, if available

That's the theory, but I doubt they'll bring the Live Starter kit into SA :(

True, if MI-Digi brings them in then it's a no go. The imported unit might include it with the standard SA Live workaround.

It says on take2 - SA distributor.

Considering it coincides with the NXE launch you know what I'm hoping, knowing full well how very unlikely it is :( ....
