Xbox 360 Play and charge kits

Hi All

For those with Xbox360 consoles, I'd like to know if you prefer the Play and Charge kits for the wireless controllers or do you prefer rechargeable batteries. I've heard that the P&C kits don't last very long, so I shouldn't waste my money on them. On the other hand, for those of you who prefer rechargeable batteries, is there any particular brand that you prefer or are they all the same. I've heard some good things about Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries, but they don't seem to be readily available from the retailers.

I'm also looking for a route to go with my 360 controllers. At the moment I'm using standard AA batteries which don't last very long. Any help is much appreciated!
 
It lasts about 2 years before you notice it starting to lose it's charge quickly. With a new battery, I get almost 2 weeks worth of play on a full charge before needing to recharge it again.

Tried the rechargeable battery route first and it wasn't for me. I like the convenience of plugging in a cable and being able to play while it charges, as opposed to fumbling with the carriage and swapping batteries.
 
I bought a cheap kit on ebay from the east, didn't really work. So now I prefer energizers or duracell , lasts long enough for me. (maybe an expensive good plug and charge kit will be better ??)
 
I have used both, but definitely recommend rechargeable batteries. I have 2 pairs of Energizer 2450 Mah AAs. It was around 20 bucks more expensive than the Energizer 2000 Mah and last much longer. I play online every other night and a set lasts me around 2 weeks

Yup, totally agree with tiaanels. I had the Xbox 360 Quick Charger Kit for a while, but the batteries eventually lose their capacity and become unusable after a year or so. Get the Energiser rechargable battery kit (2450 mAh) and you won't look back.

I used to have the play and charge kit, but when you have to keep plugging it in to play due to the battery being crap it gets annoying. I eventually got 2700mah Uniross rechargeables and they last quite some time, you also get a quick charge kit and charge them up while you use the other set.
 
Thanks guys for the input. I personally feel that it makes better sense to rather get rechargeable AA batteries than the Play & Charge kits, and also much cheaper. I've done a bit a of research and found that there are different types of Ni-MH rechargeable batteries.
Lupus mentioned the Uniross AA rechargeable batteries and I see they come in two different types. Your standard rechargeable and your newer technology, Uniross Hybrios, which is a Low Self Discharge or LSD Ni-MH battery. The LSD's tend to hold its charge for much longer so basically if you charge them now, then they would have lost only about 15% of their charge after a year (without use).
In my original query I asked about Sony Eneloops, which is apparently not readily available in SA, but the Uniross Hybrios uses the same technology and you can find them in most major retail stores.
 
I prefer rechargeable AA batteries. One of the things that irritates me about the PS3 is having to run a cable to charge the controller.

I've used GP mostly, plus some Duracell and Hahnel standard NiMH batteries. Fairly recently I've been switching over to the LSD batteries as I replace old ones. Uniross Hybrios initially because they're easy to get in local shops, but I've subsequently bought a bunch of Sanyo Eneloops. For charging I've been using a GP Smart 2 for years, and it's a good charger. Not too long ago I picked up a Maha C9000. That will get used at home now, but the GP will still be useful as a more portable charger. Both can however easily run off a car.

Hi Noxibox

Did you get the Sanyo Eneloops locally and do they work better than the Uniross Hybrois?
 
I got the Nyko rechargable pack consisting of 2 battery packs and a charger. Got it for over 3 years and it keeps its charge for a long time, atleast 2 weeks. Got it from look and listen or musica and its outlasted 2 xboxes!

I didn't get mine here, but I know you can get them from Zaps.

Both my Eneloops and Hybrios are 1900mAH. I haven't done a capacity test to see if one is better than the other, and if I needed more I'd probably buy whichever was cheaper, or easier if I needed them in a hurry.

Thanks noxibox. I placed an order with Zaps this morning for the Eneloops which were R71-00 incl. for a pack of 4. The Uniross Hybrios were R93-00 from them, but at Game and Makro the Uniross Hybrios are R129-00 for a 4 pack.
Only problem is that the Eneloops do not come with a charger and I have to source a charger from somewhere now.
 
Play and charge kit

I bought 2 black xbox play and charge kits from http://www.dealextreme.com/, it came with the battery pack and the charging cable, the cable fits properly on the top of the controller just like the original one.

battery life is very good, can last up to a week if used everyday, or even longer. much better then rechargeables since you can also use it while its charging.

takes about 3-4 weeks to arrive from date of purchase, but make sure you order the correct kit, some cheaper kits do not work well.

I paid around R70 each for my kits, shipping is free.
 
Any of the Eveready, Duracell or Uniross chargers available at the shops should work fine. Orms used to sell a GP charger. The guys on the candlepower forums were recommending 0.5C to 1C charging current, which translates to 2 hours to 1 hour charging time. How high you go depends on how much cooling there is. If the batteries are packed right next to each other 0.5C is a safer bet.

How much you spend on a charger depends on how much you're going to use it. I have loads of gadgets and toys that take AA and AAA batteries. For people who use piles of the things something like a Maha makes sense.
