How do you copy videos from your pc to your 360 to watch without being connected to the pc?

How do you watch .avi videos from your pc through your xbox without signing into xbox live? , everytime i try it says an update is needed and i need to connect to XBL but when i connect it does not download anthing but it lets me watch the movie.?
I believe it's got something to do with the IPTV functionality that Windows Media Centre has integrated
create a new live profile, and download the media update for that profile, you will now be able to watch avi's without going online

or dont be online(as in disconect your ethernet cable) when you try and watch avi files it wont try and down;oad anything

Err ... rather disconnect your phone cable and use TVersity to stream and transcode your movies on the PC to the 360.
It works out better than buying disks. Baddaboom is also an awesome app if you wanna encode MKV files to watch and stream via TVersity.
