Xbox 360 Wireless Adaptor

They do, also available from PCMall. But it should work on the same principle as the wireless usb.

I used the front usb to test yesterday, maybe you have to use the usb at the back of the console, next to the ethernet port. I doubt whether it will make any difference, but i'll try this evening.

Otherwise, using a router to bridge the connections will be the most viable option.

Well virtually 2 months later I actually got the thing to work :)

I went and got myself a Linksys Access point and after beating my head on the wall for a couple of days I managed to get it to bridge to my current wireless router.

I then plugged it into the Xbox and Bob's your uncle I am on live....

So I saved myself R200 and increased the wireless footprint in my house. Awesome :D

Xbox Live is awesome, absolutely awesome. But that is a thread for Monday...

Just in closing, you don't need the official Xbox 360 Wireless Adaptor, a wireless AP works fine.

Thread necromancy: so a normal USB wireless adaptor will NOT work... is that correct?

Why do you want a wireless adapter? Seems like an awful lot of money to avoid running a cable?

Yeah but if experience with trying to play LAN games over WiFi are anything to go by, I don't think playing games over WiFi to a server on the internet are going to be any better.
Unless you're just using the Xbox to stream movies or play mp3s

It wont be any worse - either way the bottleneck is the internet.

I take it you're not married or cohabiting? Most women dont appreciate thick cables all over the shop :)

I've got a load of laptops, a hifi, printer, xbox, and mini sharing the same wireless AP and it works fine

I'm the latter, I guess if you don't have any cabling experience it is quite a mission and damn ugly if not done right.

i bought the official xbox wifi thingy and it was easy to set up with the router - never thought of trying another wifi device for the xbox - owell no loss.

cool thing. never have to worrry about wires again.

I would be more sold on a device that sent a wireless signal from my Xbox to my TV. Having an Xbox next to my couch rather than all the way by the TV would be the business :D

@Fudzy, gaming over wifi is bad but not when the wireless is a connection between the xbox and and ADSL router. Then you don't notice the difference. I used the wireless gateway trick up until I got robbed and they stole my main router, after that I just cabled my TV to the router. I haven't noticed the slightest difference.

Huh? How does that work? Can you connect to other Xboxes using system link through the wifi adapter? Surely the gaming experience would be better than connecting to the internet to play the game. Depends on what games your playing as well.

No I meant using wifi to connect to your local router, as soon as your wifi needs to connect to others then you are at the mercy of the weather which messes up wireless connections and latency.

Why not keep the xbox near the tv and get a wireless controller?

At R450-R500 for a WAP I'm keen to set one up in my lounge, it makes a lot more sense at the end of the day, but I just can't justify the expense at the moment. Anyone want to buy a spare 360 hard drive? ;)
