Hmm, well i just pulled the *.vob file onto the batch and converted it straight to WMV quite quickly...

WMV no good, my oldman bought one of those little glorified external hard-drive enclosures and now he's on a mission to convert all his DVDs to DivX. Nero Digital MP4s dont work either.

for dvd to divx you probably want to use drdivx. this used to be a payware program but is now open source

Unfortunately any type of manual conversion (Divx/Xvid -> WMV) is still too time expensive from me.

I can burn 4.7 Gigs of DivX/Xvid onto a DVD+RW in ~15min and watch on my R600 Divx capable LG DVD player. Encoding each file (to stream to the xbox) would take a lot longer even with a beefy PC & superfast sw like VLC.

True my LG wont play files higher than 720x576, but realisticlly who has the bandwidth & patience to download the hi-def versions, especially if its view & discard content.
