Xbox controller on PC

I bought an xbox 360 controller that had the ms pc hardware logo on. Just make sure it is the one for pc. Then you'll be fine. Just a quick software install, plug in the wireless reciever and you're good to go

Sounds cool. Anyone want to swop me? A Xbox 360 wireless for PC, and in return I'd give logitech momo steering wheel? Want to try the controller and rarely use my steering wheel.

1) you can't use play and charge kit with wireless controller to make it work on a pc.
2) you get a pc version of the controller that is wired.
3) if you have a wireless you can use a receiver for the pc.
zapsonline last place i've used for a receiver. afaik most places are out of stock at the moment as per satanboy trying to get hold of a receiver/controller.

The Xbox controller does not need to be for PC, I went to the shops a few weeks back and purchased a controller but they didn't have PC ones in stock so I took the Xbox one and windows automatically updated it and installed the software for it.

Sure about that? I was told that you require the specific PC one...
Wired one, yes.
Wireless one, no.
You need a wireless receiver for the PC which does not come with the wireless XBOX controller, have to purchase it separately.

Turns out. The wireless one needs to have a special receiver to allow it to connect as the xbox has his built in. Where as the wired should connect and install just fine. This is as far as my research shows..

Just for some clarity. I have tried a number of different combinations. You require one of the following configurations to use an XBOX controller with your PC.
1) The wired XBOX controller for windows(Comes in red packaging).
2) Any wireless XBOX controller will work if you have the correct receiver. This can be purchased separately or in a bundle with a wireless controller (comes in red packaging).
By the way, under windows7 and Ubuntu the install for either configuration is seamless.
Hope this clears it up.

Wootware: Supplier says there is a world wide shortage of controllers (wired or not), new stock to arrive in January.

The only difference between the wired controller for windows (red packaging) and the wired 360 one (green packaging) is a driver disc.
