Okay so i got this one, checked up online how to fix it yourself, heatsink etc can be done in under 2 hours. Out of warranty so i have min to lose, just wondering if anyone has also done a diy on the heatsink.

Also i see bt games now does repairs anyone gone this route and how much?

take ur console to maestro_za here on mybb, also check out if u not in same area if he know's of someone else. also remember e74 is 3 yrs warranty if i aint wrong... u can also check online for repair kits, i saw on www.ck3.co.uk ... dunno if it works best best is maestro_za i reckon, hear good things about him...

are you sure its over 3 years old? Afaik its only the hdmi models that e74 and they are 2007+ models.

Any model can e74!

E74 = This error is caused by a cold solder joint under the GPU, (H)ANA-chip or in between. Can also be a component that is missing or damaged so look for missing parts near the GPU and the (H)ANA chip.

I use a SMD reflow station for most 'ring of death' errors. All due respect to BT Games and most console repair shops, but quick fixes aren't a lasting solution.

From next year onwards I'll be doing GPU re-balling which is the permanent solution -- as in bye-bye RROD, just the equipment needed burns a hole in the pocket. Since I don't feel like paying interest on a bank loan I'm importing the equipment bit by bit!

@ shamanic aphex: You're welcome to go the DIY route, and it might even be restored to working condition for a few months. Just be sure to have your kit ready when it dies again. Good luck ;)
