Can somebody please confirm if this is true:

You can only enjoy multiplayer "free" Xbox gold games if all players have a gold account? If no, you can only play as single player(if you only have one gold account). And this is apparently true for online and offline playing.

Is this also true for the discounted games that you buy via the gold account?

Playing games online, whether on disc, free or digitally purchased, requires a gold account.

my question is refers to the games that are available for free download to gold members. For multiplayer games do both need gold account?

Same question for games bought at reduced price as gold member?

If memory serves as long as the Xbox is the main (one that holds the licenses) has the game, the other profiles don't need to have Gold.

If any profile (gold or silver) buys/downloads a game, then all the profiles on the same console has access to that game and can play it. However, the profile playing the game needs to have a gold account to use the multi-player section of the game.

If you are referring to Gears of War (which is now free for Gold subscribers) and want to play split screen online with two local accounts (I'm assuming here) then there is a way. The older Gears of War games allowed the gold profile to invite a 'guest' account for split screen online multi-player. The guest account is not silver account it is just a 'guest' user within Gears of war. When you are playing online this user will have the same username as the gold member with whom he is split screen-ing with, except he'll have a "[1]" appended to the name. You'll have to wait for someone to confirm that GOW Judgement works the same.

EDIT: there is also a family subscription: It is a bit more expensive but then its one subscription paid and 4 users on one console will each have a Gold account.

Thanks for all the answers. It now seems that my original question was based on incorrect info.

With reference to free "gold account" downloaded games:
It seems local multiplayer mode does not require all player to have gold accounts while online multiplayer MAY require all players to have gold accounts
