Does anyone know if you can use a different HDD to the one that comes with the XBox?

I opened the caddy that clips on the side and attached my 60GB SATA drive but the dash board didn't pick it up.

I would still try finding someone who has spinrite to put the existing drive through its paces. It is non-destructive (in fact it completely ignores the content on the drive and operates independently of what ever is on the drive).

Apparently it can be done but you need to find the exact same series of Western Digi drives with the exact same firmware edition. If I'm not mistaken it also fomats any size drive to 20Gb anyway.

Good luck!

That'sa all fine and well but my drive is a Samsung Spinpoint. Maybe I can get it swapped out.

What was the HDD place that does the swap outs? Storgate?
