Good Day All

I am a relativley new Xbox gamer and have not tried the Xbox Live part of the whole experience. As such i was wondering how much bandwidth Live uses? Just playing an average game in SA and abroad.

I am very interested but if Bandwidth consumption is ridiculously high, i may have a problem...

Can't answer exactly how much bandwith live uses - dem cleva peeps like Doobiwan would have the exact figues - all I can say is I have a helkom 3gb crappy 386 narrowband shaped account, I have between 2 - 3 pc's connected 24/7 to internet and boy child plays about 3 - 4 hours live daily and I haven't been capped for the last 3 months :)
Ok I don't do movies, and I don't do downloads and I don't do music, because you can't do these things with hellkom, but I do do gaming!!

Using COD4 as an example ..... someone (probably doobiwan :D) mentioned that that uses about 40mb an hour ..... not too much that :D

If I can do the math, then 4 hours a day = 5GB a month? maybe because we play mainly local games it uses only local bandwith?

Those numbers are about right.

It firstly depends on the game. a simple game with good netcode like Forza can be as little as 20Mb/hour, something like Halo 3 and Gears of War is about 40Mbph. BUT that's purely as a client, and without voice. If you're on a chatty squad that goes up to about 60-80Mbph from the VoIP. If you host it goes up further to about 80-120MBps.

Live is worth the bandwidth. Don't even think about it- just get it and your world will change.

@Losticus, if you're on ADSL the bandwidth isn't really an issue. If you're on wireless there's a bigger issue and that's latency/lag.

If you're not sure just try it out for free ;) If you have a 360 pro and you sign up for Live Silver you get a free months gold. If you're unsure just create a temporary account and try it.

Alternatively just set your locale to UK and sign up with a code from one of the following sites.
