Xbox Live - Can't chat or join ??

I am using an MTN usb hsdpa modem with a mtn or vodacom sim on prepaid bundles. The vodacom sim also has internetVPN enabled. I'm using my PC (xpsp2) for ICS. I have static IP addresses and have opened my ports (UDP,TCP3074 & UDP 88). My NAT is open. I can't join some games from some friends and also cant chat to some friends but can send voice messages and text. Any ideas of what to try next.

Just checking, you have the latest firmware updates and patches installed and you haven't chipped your Xbox?

Xbox is standard, not modded or anything, also have done the updates.
