Hi,

Has anyone tried connecting to xbox live via a Vodacom or any 3G connection?
Can you give an indication of speed, settings required, etc.

I've done it..

Speed is ok, but of course you have to watch your usage....

I did it by just sharing the 3g connection on my laptop and my xbox picked it up and off it went...

Bincx : of course, i'm ignoring the simple fact that your laptop then becomes the DHCP server, so of course IP's etc etc etc must change if you already have a network setup...

Is there any specific IP, etc settings? If i set it to auto detect, would it work?
At the moment i'm connected @ 384k via my router but get serious lag issues so I thought i'd give 3G a try.

yes totaly possible, using 3tg on mtn, and can play with local south african players
without problems. e.g. GOW, FORZA, GRAW2, Rainbow six etc.

Will not work on DOA or fighting games as lag is a problem.

head over to xbox-360.co.za to find local players on live, and ask them to invite you to games. there should be threads if you have problems connecting,

well if your router is doing the DHCP then you need to disable it, because once you enable ICS on the 3g connection that pc will become a DHCP server and your xbox should get a new IP from it.

384 sohould perform better than 3g . you would not be able to host.

I use my laptop to connect my 360 to the internet and this is how I do it...

My laptop connects to my router and receives an IP address from the DHCP server.

I then connect my xbox to my latop and enable ICS on the router connection.
The laptop then gives the xbox a 192.168.0.? IP address..

I then play online ;)

I also use that bridge set up with my PC. Rather give your Xbox a static IP though, that way you can forward the required ports on the router to have your NAT set to open.

But theres no way i can see 3G performing better than ADSL for Live, and it will rape your cap. Im comparing to my usage when I play DOTA online.

Lucky for me, my wife does 3G data testing for Vodacom. And since she has no idea what to download or use it on... i have an endless supply of data bundles, hence the cap is not really an issue :)

ok... i gave it a go and it failed by the IP Address part

My laptop is connected 3G. I then run the xbox cable from my laptop to the 360.
My 3G connection is set to ICS enabled i.e. Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection.
On the same tab 'Advanced' - the Internet Connection Firewall option is also enabled. Could that be the problem?

If that's not the problem you may also have a crossover problem. - ie network cables are designed to run from device to hub, if you're connecting device to device, the cable needs to be a crossover cable, unless one of the devices can autosense, which is often not the case.

If the cable run from the laptop to the xbox it would not be a crosover problem, xbox have a intelegint port and change it automaticly depending on the cable put in.
