I've had my Xbox for years and years and years - but only got ADSL recently.

Very occasional back then, I'd pop on for an update, but other than that it was only local use. I also remember having to enter a fake address because Xbox Live wasn't in South Africa. Though it was on the cards for a long time ...

Question is - now that I have DSL I'm interested once again. I'm pretty sure the stupid subscription is there ... so what can I do without it?

Is Xbox Live local as yet?

There is SA Live but its not locally hosted though. With credit card it costs R50 a month or you can buy cheap subscriptions code from online stores like takealot.

Your best bet would be to save up for R299 and buy the 12 months it well worth it.

Just so you know just because its SA Live it still matches you with international players on most games except for mw3 I see it ALWAYS matches with local players which is kinda cool. :)

Urgh - so not much has changed ;)

I can't even play a one on one without a subs with a friend?

That is mostly because of MW3's awesome matchmaking system!

Nope, if you want to play you have to get gold. R290 a year is really not bad though, it's less than your TV license!

TV license is R250 a year ;-) but yeah the price for Gold isn't bad at all, picked up more at evopoints.co.za, quick and painless. Have had Live now going on 5 years.
