XBOX Media Centre setup

Hey Guys

Is it possible to setup Media Centre with just the XBOX console,crossover cable and an IBurst UTD modem(USB).I dont have a router.

I am currently connected to XBL with a network cable connected to my IBurst.

Would a cross-over cable work if ..
I connect my pc to IBurst with a USB cable and then using the crossover cable to connect my XBOX .Create a local IP address on my notebook and then setup my XBOX on the same subnet?

As far as i know there's only 2 ways of going about it.
1. through a router
2. through a lan (hub) connection.

I'm not sure, but i heard someone tried a direct link, but i don't think that'll work.

Try your first suggestion if another fundi doesn't reply, but my bro has his through his lan hub, mine is connected through my router.

If you bridge the network connections on your laptop, this may work..

I used to use my laptop connected to my phone (3g), then an ad-hoc wireless network between the xbox and laptop, bridged the connections and it worked.
