Motus' 'Darwin' motion control for Xbox 360

Motus is developing a break-apart motion controller for the Xbox, with three new video demos showing off the technology in use with popular Xbox 360 titles, Harry Potter, Tiger Woods Golf and Lego Star Wars.

TechRadar spoke with a Motus rep today and we expect to find out more about this exciting new technology very soon.

First party?

It's not yet clear if this is going to be produced as a first party device by Microsoft or as a third party device directly by Motus. But you can see from the info and video demos on the Motus site that the 'Six Degrees of Freedom' tech (codenamed 'Darwin') is described as follows:

"Darwin uses a number of sensors that allow it to know where it is… It is self-contained, meaning what you hold is all you need, no IR strips or other devices for a reference point."

Darwin also allows for "three modes of play: combined, two free hands or two player".

Motus also provides a comprehensive guide to how and why its technology is more advanced than Nintendo's Wii Remote. Let's not beat about the bush then!

Expect more on Motus' motion control for Xbox 360 shortly. For now, check out the video demos of

MOTION CONTROLLERS!!! *SIGH*
PS3 didnt do anything with it, or atleast failed in it. lets see what Xbox360 does...

Edit: OOOPS i didnt check the link before i started ranting. i see its a Wii type, my bad.... Xbox Sports? LOL

ya and probably Xbox Fit aswell, just wait soon you'll see that Pad thing aswell
They probably saw that they are moving to #2 spot

I'll buy a console if they stick a mouse and keyboard in...... Nope sorry i lie i still wont lol.
Please forgive for the PC Fanboism, I'll stop now.

@Kage
oh i forgots!!!!
oh ooh i can't wait... i normally suck at facts. go get em Kage
but you my friend, can get some good stuff out...
I cant think anymore... Im out....

No way, keep it away from Gears at all costs!

Viva Pinata could use it, or Maybe a second player in banjo.

Better yet, get some of the good games that never made it on the Wii - Zak and Wiki, No more Heroes, Raving RAbbids 2 (I know one is already on the 360).

I agree with doobiwan - it will better used with games like platformers and...i shudder to use the word...casual games.
Although...Metroid 3 did not do to badly with the Wii, it allows for better aiming, movement with FPS.

I'm not such a big fan of all this motion sensing stuff, I hope games dont start requiring it.

Unless its some kind of virtual gears, some fancy brainwave device. :D

Na just kidding.;)

Just keep weird Dildo looking device away from gears and im happy :D

I still think microsoft will announce their official motion controller at E3. I'm not always keen on these other accessories. Normally leads to problems.

Needless to say, a motion controller will be a great addition. Won't need to buy a Wii anymore :)

Well i am not sure whether this will become the 1st party or not...this might be a sneak preview for it...ms will be pretty stupid to not make this their 1st party product...looking at the specs/videos.

I highly doubt Microsoft will use this particular product, mainly due to the fact that it's being released for PS3 / PC as well. I'm sure they do have something in the works though. (Maybe they will just buyout Motus and save themselves all the trouble)

[Rant on gaming sites] It's actually amazing to see how this "new" controller has got so much attention considering information about it started surfacing way back in Jan/Feb. It all comes down to E3 hype, and the uncanny resemblance to the x360 colours. At least they won't have to do much marketing anymore.
