The point is using the Xbox as an AV receiver... once central hub to rule them all. One remote, one device, one interface.
The issue is obviously poor planning and design by Xbox. Who's designers seemed to have forgotten that there is a market outside the US.
I personally, prefer having an ACTUAL AV receiver. One programmable remote can replace the TV remote and DSTV remote. Everything plugs into the amp... 1 HDMI cable goes to the TV. Receiver has the option for HDMI upscale or passthrough. It really is poor form that the Xbox One designers WANTED the console to consolidate all AV peripherals yet fail at a very fundamental point.
The cynic in me believes that Microsoft is planning a coup with the direction they have taken with "the One". They foresee VOD overtaking cable and satellite services so they're trying to build a device to be a gateway for a future entry in the VOD space through their Xbox Live platform (or something similar). It explains why the gaming aspect of their GAME console seems to be an afterthought. Micro transactions are the wave of the future... and Microsoft is trying to get a foot in the door.
