Xbox One: what about used games?

This sounds way too complicated, and opens itself up to scams. So if you buy a game from someone (not a store), how do you know that they've actually unlinked it from their account? No thanks, as much as I like the device, I'm still undecided as to who I'll be choosing.
 
I really wish MS would just officially lay out exactly what they plan to do. It is incredibly frustrating having so many different versions of the truth out there. Internet rage is fine, as long as we know it is about something which is true.
 
The Xbox reveal seems a bit disappointing to say the least. It seems more about Kinect?

it is more about kinect ... its what they using to push the new aspects of gameplay ... voice and interactive play etc
im just a bit upset with all the confusion about the whole online access/DRM type stuff!

Compare it with the Sony "conference" then get a point and a life. ;)
 
Maybe they are testing the waters with the announcment, too many negative impressions and they will scrap the idea. Hence there is no concrete info yet, the plan isn't a definite?

Highly doubt they are simply testing the waters - MS will receive the go-ahead from various / developers to do away with the used games market as we know it - simply because it makes business sense in doing so. The One becomes a multifunctional media device and I sure hope the SA market will be to accommodate all/most of its features on time to ensure it becomes a success locally.

Coming from a casual gamer's perspective, based on reports from both Sony and MS, I think I will be looking to go with the PS4 this time round - cannot wait for E3 to hopefully address all our questions regarding both the next-gen consoles :D
 
I have all the consoles for the various exclusives, but the Xbox gets used 98% of the time, but from what I have read so far it looks like I won't be rushing into buying the xbox one.
 
It's like saying: If you own a Bluray and want to watch it at a friend's house, you have to log in first and give him permission. Such non-sense. This will purposefully destroy the 2nd hand game market, as it was always a thorn in the eye of game studios and publishers. What will happen in the end is that you will sell your game to a rental store and M$ will have a mechanism in place to monetize on this - they will most likely charge you a fee to release the game (that would be the most sensical, since they know to hom the game belongs).

M$ will certainly open a can of worms if they start destroying the 2nd gaming rental market - in the UK alone the market is worth 4 billion Rand and creates employment for over 6000 people - I would think in the US this is probably 10-20 fold - think about the economic repercussions a model like this would create.

You mean like all the studios that won't have to close down and that it will help stop forcing multiplayer where it doesn't belong?

Sounds good to me.

May even allow publishers to test out new IP more often.
 
I recently picked up an XBOX 360 for streaming media and there are 2 things that have griped me fairly early on:

1) In order to anything decent with the XBOX, i need to get a Gold Membership and pay them money every month/year. I want to use Netflix (which already costs me money every month) but I cant, because I don't have Gold Membership. On the PS3, this is not an issue from what i hear.
2) File support: 360 fails to play mkv files, whereas this is not an issue on my PS3.

The other thing was just the feeling I had on the Xbox 360 - it always seems like I'm getting upsold on something there, where as this wasnt the case on my PS3. Having seen both consoles now, it seems I'm in the PS3 camp as my favorite console.

So I'm already leaning towards the PS4 now, and eagerly awaiting more info from E3.
 
I leave multimedia entertainment to XBMC (nowadays Xtreamer and OpenElec is my favorite) - an XBOX will never be able to play the content you want and give you flexibility (neither will the PS3). I found the PS3 ecosystem just focused on gaming where the XBOX tries to be everything and quite poorly at it.

PS3 actually streams Netflix at higher quality for some reason. Many forumites and mentioned this.
