So I have blocked Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 on my router as I use a roku stick and I have a paid dns service provider....the thing is that the speeds are sometimes reduced with this provider but I can still get HD speeds so I am happy with that.

Now what I want to do is have my Xbox use through Google dns servers due to when game updates come out...I want that full line speed and not the reduced one from the dns provider.

Is there a way to have xbox use the public dns and still have it blocked for my roku?

Router is Asus dsl-N17U

Thanks in advance

You can define a custom DNS in the Wifi connection settings on the Xbox. Should supersede your router's DNS settings.

Depends how you setup your router, if you've created a firewall rule to block Google's DNS you'll need to create a static IP for the x-box and unblock the rule for that specific IP (if your router allows it)

On my config I've got only my streaming devices assigned a static IP and a corresponding firewall block for those IP addresses on the relevant DNS servers

Correct..
But I have route table setup and it blocks Google dns servers. When 8.8.8.8 is requested it forwards to my paid dns service.
