Better than component - or simply another method for connection?

I have both component and VGA and just wondering if I'd want to buy this VGA cable ...

Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing since I saw a VGA cable at Rage.

I know that you can't get 1080p HD-DVD playback through the component but you can through VGA....

I have been told that nothing actually beats component for normal visual playback...

Oh the majority of people use it to play on PC monitors if they don't have HD TV's

I actually googled just after I posted ... no one seems to know for sure :/ It seems very divided but my guess is they're very close. Some say a VGA cable is the same, as it divides into red, green and blue anyway.

*shrug*

Also wondered about until I realised the mini was using the vga port on the plasma so component seems the viable option . . . plus I didnt want to pay for another cable if I didnt have to.

I have the VGA cable. IMO the colours on the VGA cable are richer. Also, you get another 30 or so lines of vertical rez using the VGA cable and you can upscale normal DVDs to 720p which looks good on some DVDs, and not noticeable on others.

imho the vga is a little better, i have both, there is a setting in the dashboard that you set which let the vga colours look better.

I play on a 37" pvision 1366*768

I think the biggies are:

1. DVD upscaling
2. Support for "PC resolutions" in more than just 720p or 1080p, it'll do things like 1280x1024 etc etc.

which, to be clear, a component cable does not do (split into red, green and blue)
that is only the colour of the connectors.
No it splits them into Y, Pr and Pb, but it hardly matters.
