XFX 8800GT graphics cards

What is the difference between these two cards. The price difference is about R100 so I don't think the performance would vary much? Also is FXF a good brand, as this is what I've heard.

You can safely do the overclocking yourself, but then you might technically void the guarentee. There won't be a big change in performance anyway.

Yup you pay more for about 5 - 10% more performance not worth it IMO

But if the can afford it, the 8800GT 512mb is about the same bang for buck as the 9600GT 512mb.

Personally I would buy a 9600GT as the 8800GT simply does not make you PC capable of playing any game you would not be able to on a 9600GT.

You sound like a 9600GT owner who wants to justify buying the 9 instead of 8 series card

Yea forgot about the 9 series would get that instead have seen them go for 1.8k!

if you are playing games at resolutions above 1280x1024 then the 8800GT is the card without a question. For 1280x1024 or below, the 9600GT will more than handsomely meet most needs.

For R500 more at most on the 512MB 8800GT, I would rather go that option in case I upgrade to a screen that can handle the larger resolutions.

EDIT: For the sake of clarity I think the 9600GT is a really fine card

I have been doing some browsing and it seems that the Leadtek 9600GT 512MB and the XFX 8800GT 512MB std for about the same. Would you then suggest that I go for the 9600 rather than the 8800 given that the screen resolution is currently 1280*1024 and is bound to increase soon...

I don't have a crazy budget but would like to spend the cash on something decent, that would at least last a while.

256 meg is fine for 1680 x 1050 anything higher you need 512
