XFX Warranty

As far as I'm concerned.. PC Zone don't have a leg to stand on.. if the manufacturers warranty is 2 years or 3 years.. they HAVE to honour it. Its all about how hard you fight and how much of a fuss you kick up in the store.

I am afraid to say there is always a gotcha with prices that seem too good to be true, and this again highlights the lack of service from them. We all ooooh and aaaah over their hard-to-beat prices and wonder how they do it. Clearly they discount the "service" portion off the purchase price and you carry the risk and hassle when things go wrong. You also don't get much in-store service either.

It's not Charlie's duty to respond, she just "knows some peeps there" as stated many times here before. Take it up with management direct.

Price? Personal Corruption Zone has slowly but surely been incresing their prices to prices that are bto expansive, The only products that may have good prices are the ones advertised in the newspaper

Whats the diff between a warranty and a garantee anyway??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warranty

I am not a lawyer (thankfully) but the way I understand it is the seller who dictates the warranty terms when they sell a product, so if they say 1 year, as the seller, that's what you get, irrespective of any manufacturer's warranty.

Yes, ideally/ethically it should be the same as the manufacturer's warranty but the seller dictates the terms.

It should also be noted that PC Zone specifically state the warranty on their ads where "extended" warranties apply, like the recent ads on Samsung monitors where the state 3 year carry-in applies.

Another big question: Does PC Zone buy XFX product through the official distributor of do they get it elsewhere?

In the case of the former, I would then go to the official distributor and see if the would honour the manufacturer's 2 year warranty for SA.

If it's the latter, that's it, you have one year, and the in-store haggling that goes along with it.

I purchased a XFX 9800gtx last year march sometime from PC Zone Durban (Pinetown). Last night During a game of Call of Duty my card died on me :(

Theirs lines across my monitor and I cant get into Windows. So i managed to a get a hold of another Card and my PC boots up fine. I phoned PC Zone and the card is not under warranty anymore because the store only has a year warranty. But according to the XFX Webpage all cards come with 3 year warranty. And I also know Axiz sells XFX cards and they come with 3 year warranty. Is there anyway I can get my card swapped out? with Axiz or overseas?

I paid a lot for this card and bought it when it just came out....and I was really really looking forward to Modern Warfare 2. Hope I can sort this out before the release of Modern Warfare 2.

I spoke to XFX. Please email nicoled @ axiz.co.za and they might be able to assist with warranty. This would be for local channel imports and not grey imports, but I have heard Zones do not use grey imports.

Nice input, PP.

Still not great to have to resort to this, it should be the store's responsibility, IMO.

When I bought my XFX 8600GT Zalman LTD Edition from them, the sales guy told me that the card only comes with a one year warranty. Always ask for warranties before you purchase something expensive.

I think this has more to do with the distributor because I bought a Biostar mobo once from a small computer shop that a friend was running. He only gave me a 1 year warranty and said that if the manufacturer offers a longer warranty then he would take it up with the supplier if the mobo broke.

i don't go near that place any more, its too small, the service is shoddy and they don't handle returns very well, I'd much rather pay a few extra bob and know that should something go wrong i'll be able to sort it out with out having to resort to throwing bricks through store front windows

Well if PCZone do buy their products from Axiz, Axiz can force them to uphold the manufacturers warranty period...

That is B@##S***, and a scandal as Pc zone should swop out that card , products normally have a manufacturers warranty , like intel products carry a 3 year warranty, seagate carry 3 year warranty, so u actaully saying even though thay have a longer warranty PC zone only gives a one year-

I would take that card back 2 PC zone and insist that they swop it out for you or report them to a consumer council and post them on hellopeter and setup a petition to boycot them.

show them this post I am sure thay would give you two cards instead of one. :D as they seem to have some gr8 fans on this forum.
next time rather get sum1 to purchased directly from a distrubutor, like axiz , rectron etc..

Don't know these guys but sounds similar to Cape Town stores, you know, the ones that all started out in the Southern Suburbs (Plumstead / Wynberg) area.

Well, interesting thing about the law and warranties. By default all products sold in South Africa carry a standard 3 yr warranty (go check it up). BUT, and I really mean a BUT bigger than Beyonces BUTT ....

This 3yr warranty only stands if the purchaser does not waiver it. Stores proudly change the 3yr warranty with their instore signs and footnotes on till receipts. This is legal.

Some stores even ask you to sign their receipts as a way to cover themselves legally with the shorter warranty period.

(Sourced this info from "Off My Trolley" when I was still in retail).

BTW: Warranty implies that a product may first be repaired. On graphic cards tests are done to check for any overclocking, and/or customer induced heat issues. On high end cards they are quick to spin some cr@p that you are at fault. Dealt with many of these claims.

This will become illegal pretty soon if I'm not mistaken. Something to do with the consumer act or something like that.

Yes, I some how I understand the same thing. This is a major plus for us, the consumer. Many suppliers will fold and we will go through a transition period of companies unable to meet these requirements, but at the end of the day we will be beter off.

My Dad is in the States and he was telling me what a pleasure it is to buy something. Its an urban myth that Americans sue for everything (its only in California) but there laws are consumer orientated. There you can buy anything and take it back a few days later - full refund, no questions asked. Seldom you get that in this country.

Thanks a lot for all the help guys! :)

I am working on getting it sorted with Axiz. Will keep you posted

I am glad u got sorted by axiz , but da point is that Pczone should have honoured the warranty in the first place , we have a computer shop down here called vefa he too is scaley always trying to shy away from his warranties , it looks to me PCzone heading the same way.

Kyubi_Brat did you get anywhere?

I'm in the same problem now. My XFX 9800 GT has died and the 2 year warranty is still intact. Ive emailed XFX and Axiz today, hoping to get a reply from one of them soon.

One of the ways PC Zone is able to offer their cheap prices is by negotiating reduced warranties with their suppliers. You get what you pay for.

Axiz sorted me out :) took one email and I was replied to instantly! Should be getting a new 9800GT on tuesday.

Thanks for the bump, this might come in handy as I have an XFX 4870 from PC Zone. Hopefully I won't need to make use of the warranty :)

I registered my card on the XFX website the same day I purchased it so there is some record of when I brought it as i usually lose my slips which I did in this case.
