Xiaomi Note 3 now R1899

Mia said that their Redmi Note 3 accessories have been shipped and they're expecting them to arrive sometime this coming week.

Can the latest stock (vanilla) android be loaded onto this phone?

MIUI 8 is brilliantly laid out and optimized that you would have to be really picky to load CM or stock Android on the device.

What is MIUI based on? Marshmallow or lollipop?
Basically, does this phone support the latest android, or is it one of those devices that will never see an update?

NVM, I found my answer.

Is it easy to update to MIUI 8 as I'm sure this phone will come with 7?

Settings > About phone > Update  you've never owned a smartphone before?

Depends on phone .
Number doesn't match with android version.
Had 2 different phones with similar Miui running different versions of Android.

I'm aware of that setting. All the Samsung devices I owned never had any updates available when a new android version released, or they were released but months later. There were ways to install the latest version, but these ways were tedious.

Im trying to find out if this phone comes with marshmallow or lollipop.

So MIUI is basically an aftermarket firmware/rom? Or is it something like Samsungs touchwizz?

It comes with Lollipop with a Marshmallow beta rom out. Yes Miui is a skin like Touchwizz etc... Miui gives you the latest security updates who cares about android version numbers? You can get the latest Miui on kitkat aswell.

It's more than a skin. I had advanced permission on my mi3 whilst on KitKat. And a lot of the marshmallow features were available on Miui as well.

Currently my Mi5 is on Miui 8 , based on android 6 (mallow)

My Mi3 had Miui7 based on KitKat, then was upgraded to Miui7.something which was lollipop

Just ordered another one, done with this service provider 24 month contract rubbish.

Will put the boss onto one as her 5s battery is up to nonsense.

I'll move across from my 6 if I feel the need to.

Just concerned about the poor camera reviews.

Having not yet seen the camera quality, how does it look over on GSMArena? Compared to the S5/S6 for instance

S5 camera superior in video and stills. S6 even more so. Also a little worried whether I will be happy with Note 3 photo's and video of the kids.

Hey guys, I was looking at Xiaomi on Wikipedia (BTW, it says they're the 4th largest mobile phone manufacturer) and it seems that the Note 3 has the Mediatek process, and the Note 3 Pro has the Snapdragon processor. The one we're getting is the Snapdragon one, yes? Does that mean its the Pro?

My searches have revealed that both the note 3 and the pro come with the snapdragon 650.

The pro has 3GB of ram and 32GB storage whereas the non pro has 2GB of ram and 16GB storage. Perhaps the Mediatek one is an older one?

Chinese : Mediatek
Global : Snapdragon

The Mediatek came out first in China.

Because of patent issues regarding Mediatek in India, they designed a snapdragon 650 one which benchmarked very well. The one for india is the one made available here.
