Hi guys

Is it worth paying extra for the Redmi Note 3 vs the Redmi 4a?

Does anyone own the 4a?

How is it holding up and performing?

The specs on the important stuff is so similar so not sure if it's worth the extra money

Please share your thoughts

I have the 4a and it works just fine no issues but understand that i am not what you would call a power user

Hws the battery and screen on 4a?

If I run my hotspot all day and actively use it for a good part of that day, then the battery goes from 100% (when I wake up at 6h30) down to 30% (when I go to bed at 22h00).

If I do not run the hotspot, then it is around 50 to 60% at 22h00, if that gives you an idea.

I do not know how I can comment on the screen other than it is there and it works.

And build Quality ?

I am impressed. But understand my general needs: I have not had a contract for years (probably 10) and I do not treat phones particularly kindly. I am known to destroy them before contracts expire. As a result, I have gotten into the habit of buying a new (cheapish) phone every year to 18 months. The iPhone I had before this lasted very well and is still in good nick. The Kalahari Gobii before that was left pretty damaged by its 18 months in my pocket, despite having a case. This phone currently only has the rubber (gel) cover that shipped with it and a glass cover from a local cell shop. That glass cover is scratched (keys, coins, knife, other random pocket junk).

The build itself is solid - one piece and no user removable parts. Like iPhones, it uses a paperclip to eject the SIM/SD tray. In the two months I have had it, it has been rock solid. The manufacturers have released TWO gui updates in that time and seem to have a regular release cycle (if that kind of thing matters to you). For the price, I doubt you could get anything better.

I bought the 4A and 3S last week. 4A for one of our sales rep then I bought the 3S couple of days later for myself. Absolutely impressed with the 4A. Quick, responsive and about the same battery life as my z3 compact.

Gets to about 20% by midnight from 100% in the morning.

3S is superb and well worth the extra R1k. Battery gets to 50% by about midnight. Heavy use.

A friend of mine has the 4A as well. It is also pretty solid with good specs and the screen is very crisp for a 720p resolution. The interface is fast and as smooth as my Redmi Note 2 with no discernible difference in app speed and performance

What would you say makes it worth the extra R1k?

I have a 3S, light user but battery life is incredible(4100mah). Great phone.

Depends. If you need the extra battery life, then definitely. Else could not really see the advantage of extra ram in terms of performance. I use apps like strava, polar flow, etc. Nothing demanding.

To be honest, most days I charge my phone in the evening or at my desk so extra battery life not required yet. If i could go back, think it will be a closer call towards the 4A.

So far, hugely impressed with this device. Feels premium in every way, except the price!

Yes. I'm literally itching to get all my family members on Xiaomi devices and Telkom freeme family. Dual SIM FTW.

I'm even considering the Mi Max. But I think it might be just a leetle big...

Forgot about the fingerprint scanner that the 3S has. Definitely makes it worth the extra R1k. Can set the scanner to work with my bank app.

Ah yes. That is a big plus. Loving the scanner on my Huawei Mate 8 right now. If only it was dual SIM...

Yes, that is massive. You must get a day if fairly heavy use out of that?
Never seen less then 65% at end of day. Recharge daily, i should get 2days easily just never tried.

Yes. Remember this is the Redme 3S.
