Xiaomi TV box and Showmax region issues

Just got what seems to be a really neat device but in trying to download Showmax it says my region does not support. Same with Disney+. Works on my mobile though.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thats strange. Did you buy the box locally?

I cant speak for Disney+, i dont have it, but just last week, I installed the showmax app with no issue.

Are you using two different emails to sign into the Google Play Store?

If so, the one on the android box might be set to something else other than SA.

i changed accounts and it fixed this issue...not sure why the old account gave this issue though...
 
Hi All - thanks for the responses. Purchased from incredible connection in Rosebank so definitely local. I will try the Google account idea created from new…. Definitely mine was created many years ago originally offshore. It’s odd though because I used same account on my iPhone and it worked absolutely fine - got showmax up and running in 2 mins.

This seems to support, a suspicion I have that Google e-mail address'es are region tagged.

Google email addresses themselves are not region-tagged.

However, the region or country associated with a Google account can influence certain settings and services, such as language preferences, content availability, and regional features.

For Amazon UK, I had to create a google e-mail address, in the UK for it to work, and simliarly for the US, so yes, they might not be specifically and unequivocally region tagged, but those settings can be used to determine, that an address is "from" a specific region. If my hypothosis is correct?

Yes, that is how I understand it. I also have a Gmail account linked to the US, and the apps in the play store are different from my South African account.
 
You might be facing regional restrictions with those apps. Here are a few suggestions:
