Xiaomi TV Box S 2nd Gen

Just received from Takealot. Can't wait to set it up on my very old dumb TV. Currently using a HP microserver with Ubuntu connected via HDMI to stream from Netflix, Showmax and Disney+. Think that uses a lot of power too. I think this little thing uses like 7 watts max.

Its a lovely piece of tech. I own a few of the older models for my TV sets. You can't go wrong with these devices.

Keep the Microserver.

Install UnRaid on it and then Plex.

Job done.

Surely not? Xiaomi has never been that cheap.

Nope...no batteries included.

It’ll replace the TV remote so just use the TV remote’s batteries. Unless the TV is pre 2006 and doesn’t have hdmi cec.

Really? So the Xiaomi romote will work my TV also? That would be a amazing. How though? Do you link it in some way to the TV?

OK...I see it needs HDMI CEC as per your post. Not sure what that is exactly lol. My TV does have HDMI obviously, but not sure about the CEC part. It is a Sony.

i have the 1st gen mibox s, but for some reason the remote is very heavy on batteries, lasts for like a week.

What TV is it?

They all call it something different between manufacturers, usually something like Link or Sync etc. If you enable it everywhere it should work for most basic functions.
