Memory allocation has been all the craze lately. Take the vivo X60 Pro+, for example. It gives you the option to extend the memory by allocating storage so you gain extra 3GB of RAM. Well, it seems that Xiaomi is working on such a feature of its own too.

Would be nice on my Redmi 9C as mine only has 2GB
Wouldn't really work as well if it constantly needs to use that swap space, it's good for e.g. app that is in the background for hours that only needs to be restored once and user can wait a bit, rather than you're swapping between browser tab and chat app and it needs to constantly use it, performance would suck.

You still have your Nokia Johnatan?

Is that a bad thing?
No. Phone RAM is fast, so you won't notice any performace degradation.

The problem is that your phone storage tend to fill up with data, making available space smaller and smaller.

So they most probably will have to segment a section of memory off for dedicated swap.

We will have to wait and see how this will pan out. On the one side, it's a good idea - apps can now swap out data, making the phone in theory more responsive, especially if you run multiple apps.

Drawback is how will they address memory allocation - will they use existing memory, or will they add an extra block of memory to the phone.

Assuming that this feature is only for newer phones, not for older ones.

Yes, 7 Plus, going to see about swapping it out this month I think, last month was last security update, still haven't gotten that one though.
My Nokia 1 got it's last "security update" last weekend. For some crazy reason it seems more stable now. Nothing was mentioned about any bug fixes or anything with the download.

In my case though I will never touch another Nokia while HMD is running the show.

This Xiaomi 9C that I bought for R1000 more is a better phone in every way. Just the size is a bit big to carry in a pocket.

So I've kept the Nokia 1 cause it's less likely to get stolen when I'm around people in town etc.

Sies, think of the poor bugger who've got to battle with a Nokia phone...

Yeah, and I have no interest in upgrading to another Nokia phone. They went full glass back, so plastic/metal back or frame no longer sets them apart.
Then all their newer options are way more expensive while worse, e.g. the G20 is going to release soon supposedly, price wise is in the same brakcet, yet has a Helio G35 that is substantially worse. Then if looking at the X20 that is supposed to be an upgrade, that one comes in at 350 EUR, so trading blows with e.g. the OnePlus N10 5G (300), and yet feature a Snapdragon 480 (not to mention the lack of a compass). Not to mention the Nokia camera is basically whatever it is at launch and never improves, it just sucks with e.g. OpenCamera even often getting better shots, never mind a google cam port. /rant sorry.

So have no interest sticking with them, yet really wanted to stick with Android One. Just wish they would have made the 7 Plus again with just a newer chip and more RAM, would have been great.

Sorry for thread sidetrack

I know how you feel. I've always been a huge Nokia fan but HMD dropped the ball.

Nokia always been strong phones....but what is the point in having a strong well built phone when software updates **** it up lol....

Anyway I'm out here. I don't want to derail this thread any further.

But my 9C is also only 2GB and I've never had the phone slow down or crash cause of running of memory
My Redmi 7 does. Also only 2GBs of RAM and it slows to a crawl sometimes. Has roughly the same CPU specs as the 9C.

A quick reboot and problem solved, but I tend to go for weeks without rebooting because I have to put in a shell command from my PC everytime I do.

True. It is not really a issue for me either. I am a obsessive app clearer from the "recent apps" screen lol. Even with my other phones which had more memory. But this would still be a cool feature :)
