This could be a stupid noob question - at the very least it is a noob question.
I have an old laptop which is currently struggling along with my large-ish music collection (MediaMonkey on XP)
I have tried and tried to get my phones (Galaxy S2 / iPhone 4) to connect in order to use them as a remote.. no luck. I think the problem is that I do not have the correct drivers, as they will not sync (or even recognise that the phone has made a sync request)
I would probably like to install Linux on the laptop as it is struggling with XP (it is 10 years old, after all) but this is not required. (I see there is XMBCbuntu, which would do the job I think)
I do not have a TV. Everything I've seen seems to point to XMBC or Plex as a media controller, but all I have seen seems to require a TV.
So my noob question is: do I actually need a TV? Surely I can use the laptop screen for anything I need to see?
