Hi All. I promised I would do a write up here as soon as I received my pc. These cats (xoticpc .com) haven been super helpful, offer amazing prices and little extras that make them worth having a look at. Laptop price was $1484 but had to pay customs fees on a round off figure of $1500. Final amount was 14% of 10% the value. I dealt with Justin Nolte and had no hassles other than having tp prove the amount paid and the invoice must match.

Happy shopping .... :P

Final price R12500

Hi,

I heard that one would pay 25% duty on the Asus Republic of Gamers laptops because it has the word "Gaming" in it and customs would classify it as a luxury item like the PS3 even though it's clearly computer hardware? What did xoticpc label your package as for customs purposes?

Did you also have to pay any customs clearing fees? (other than 14% vat)

How much did the bank charge you to do the transfer?

Does the R12,500 include shipping?

ie. what was the total cost of bringing the laptop in?

1)Don't believe what you hear. I am a developer and require a higher end system and often only gaming rigs do. So there is no truth to that and if there were I would argue all day.

2) Xotic pc labelled box as simply laptop and there were few fees as mentioned. I paid 10% on value and an additional vat of 14 %. Final price was R12500 rounded off and included the burn in of the thermal paste. No issues with laptop yet and he is extremely quiet.

Like I said the only odd thing was that they wanted to see my invoice which was an exact copy of the one that xoticpc had placed in the box but I guess they just making sure. Fees are bank dependant and I happen to have a foeign account but the norm is about 50 US

Yes it includes shipping fee.

Laptop: $1300 * R7.5/$ = R9,750
Shipping: $150 * 7.5 = R1,125
10% on value (R9750*10%) = R975
14% VAT (R9750*14%) = R1365

Total: R13,200

Can't get to R12,500 (even with using laptop price as $1,300) Where am I going wrong in my calculation?

I want to buy the Asus G73JH from excaliburpc for about $1550, how much will that set me back with shipping, customs fees, vat, everything?

You are including the postage sorry :P Never added it as it's not really an extra to me and is not even taxable do just left it out

1484 x 7.3 =10800 + 1800 vat and custom = 12500 rounded off still worth it with these days petrol prices it may cost you that much to drive to laptop store and incredible conmen will sell you a piece of crap.
