Hey all

I need to format my PC, and i was wondering if i should install 32-bit or 64-bit XP?

Will i see any performance in gaming or any performance increase at all?

PC specs atm:

AMD opteron 165
2GB DDR 400 RAM
200GB SATA HDD
6800GS 256MB PCI-x

I can get all the drivers for the x64 system, but is it really worth it?

Any help would be great!

Thanks in advance

Archi3 :)

I've found Vista 64-bit to be a lot more stable that Vista 32-bit. Not sure about XP though, from what I've heard XP 64-bit was rather crappy

I would go 64 bit if i was you for sure.

If you have all the drivers go 64 bit, windows xp 64 bit is just amazing if you ask me. Very few virus's and spyware, its faster and responds way better, alot more stable the 32 bit.

If i could have had all the drivers for my printers i would have never used 32 bit windows but my printers never had drivers for 64 bit windows xp :(

Nope, since you don't have over 4GB of ram the 64 bit system won't be of any use. Although it will run, it will not really be any different than the 32 bit edition anyway.

Asha i am wondering if you have ever loaded xp 64 bit? i'm assuming you have by stating it won't be any different.

I am on Windoze7 64 bit. Will never look back again. Those hardware items that do not conform to 64bit will meet the dustbin. Simple. I would rather buy new compatible hardware or set up a second system as server just for those items.

Dude trust me when I say Vista 64 is seriously awesome! I have never used such a stable OS. Even after months of use, it doesnt slow down. I am actually wondering if I will even need to format my machine agian :D *touch wood*

I'm considering downgrading from Vista 32bit to XP 64bit. I don't really have any complaints about Vista besides the fact that it sucks.

Been running Vista for 1 year, and it's slowed down considerably. Also the networking side of Vista is so unstable and unreliable, it's not even funny.

I'm hoping to put vista 64 on my system shortly :D

XP 64 is supposed to be not all that great though.
