Hi DagegeN, :)

Use 3Gb. 4Gb apparently has issues with XP 32bit.
2x1gb and 2x512Mb

AFAIK, Windows 32bit has a problem with using more than 3Gb and it may make your system actually run slower.
So I have been told by the guys that play Battlefield 2.

I know the sweet spot with Battlefield 2 on-line is 3Gb of Ram and my Nephew has this amount of Ram with not one hiccup using Windows XP 32bit. His machine, which is a Asus NF4 set-up loads faster than his 1Gb and 2Gb counterparts that play on-line with him and he doesn't get that little jerks that some of the other players get mostly at load up and during play.

Be careful to place the ram in the right slots for Dual Channel configuration. Check out your User Manual. :)

Hope this helps.

Yeah, the max windows supports is 4GB, but seriously, 2Gb is more than enough.

4GB is the theoretical max. In practice, if you put 4GB in an XP 32bit machine, it'll only use about 3.5GB.

However, quantity isn't everything. It is imperative that your memory is matched (in terms of speed) and, of course, make sure your dual channel is correctly setup. A setup of 2GB of matched memory is worlds better than a stuff-up of 4GB of unmatched memory.

my 5c (I'm feeling expensive today)

the windows support is 4gb... however the application itself cannot use it all

Some Intel chipsets have limitations as to how much RAM it can address - 2GB is perfect for XP 32-bit.

2Gb is more than enough.
IMO rather get 2Gb quality than 4Gb of generic
