I've always used hibernation on my pc for all the years it's been an available feature. Running a PC with XP SP3, and since January it hibernates as usual until the final "Hibernating..." screen, where it freezes once the entire blue bar's loaded and I have to manually power off the machine by holding down the power button for 5 seconds. When I turn the pc back on, everything resumes as per normal.

So: what do I do so that the pc powers off once finished hibernating as it used to :/?

i assume you have tried a normal shut down procedure to flush the memory and then try hibernate again?

Yup. I've been having to do full shut downs since the problem started else I'd keep forgetting I had to manual power down after hibernating, but I've decided it's time to sort the problem out now.

This is an issue on some machines running XP SP3.

Have you updated any drivers since installing SP3, apparently updating the display/graphics drivers can _sometimes_ resolve the issue.

It could also be a setting in your BIOS thats preventing the pc shut down once all the ram has been saved to the hard drive. I remember having a similar problem before and I solved it by reading my motherboard's manual.

What'd you have to change in the BIOS? I had already taken a look through it and changed anything they may have looked like it could help but seeing as how hibernate did actually work at one stage, and stopped without me making changes to my BIOS I don't think that's the case.
