XP install doesn't detect hard drive

You can also slipstream your SATA drivers and XP SP3 to a new CD - so you can install directly from that new CD...

...methinks it's BillG's way to say that we must drop XP and move over to Vista... fat chance of that happening, I'd rather defect to Ubuntu than install and use Vista...

Anybody noticed that the 'Microsoft Windows' moniker dropped away? Previously it was Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP... but now it's just plain Vista. No 'Microsoft' or 'Windows'... just plain Vista.

actually a similar thing happened with Me. People do not speak of it as "Windows Me"... just "EM-EE" as if to distance it from anything microsoft or as if it does not qualify as a microsoft product. I think the same thing is happening with Vista... Me2 :p

You sometimes also need to change a BIOS setting. I have had installs where it doesn't detect the HDD due to being SATA and somewhere in the BIOS you can change the HDD to emulate IDE or something similar, can't remember the exact setting but it's easier than drivers on a stiffy so maybe check in your BIOS first.
