What's so different about it? Should I install it on a laptop?

Only big different is that it includes Media Centre. So if you plan on connecting it to a TV or large screen, then yes.

Ah no I'm not gonna do that.

It's XP Pro with a suite of media center apps, I'm currently using it to watch some TV. 7 Home Premium is a better option IMO, but XP MCE is good enough if you got it for free.
