Hey guys

Just wondering why my desktop does not want to recover from standby at times?

Also, is there software out there that really speeds up the pc? There are so many on the market - Reg cleaners etc etc.

Keepest wellest :)

Don

That recover from standby has always been troublesome for me, so I stopped using it years ago. I think its mainly down to drivers. I don't see much reason for using it anyway.

None of those programs will make your PC go faster. Best is to type msconfig in Run. Go to the startup tab, clear eveything you think might be unnecesarry (like Adobe update and whatever). You can even deselect everything. Some programs might not like that, but you can reenable anything you want again after you see a problem.

Secondly, you can go to System Properties, then Advanced tab, then click on setting for performance, then select Adjust for best performance and then go down and tick the bottom last three boxes. You might want to keep the bottom one disabled depending on your choice.

Your PC will now feel much more responsive after you restart it. Have a nice day :)

Why do people believe that reigstry cleaners are good for your computers, never mind make them faster? They are really actually bad for your computer, often deleting the wrong registry entries. Eish. the people of today.

The above two posts pretty much cover it all. Oh, don't forget to do a virus scan every now and then if you are running 32-bit M$ OS's.

Ram, Diskeeper, format and reinstall, disable unnecessary services , Spybot, avoid desktop search apps and anti-virus apps ( then stay off the internet ), turn off disk indexing, make larger pagefiles.

In other words turn off anything you don't need that runs in the background.
