I have a machine here that keeps on rebooting as soon as you get into windows. It does the same thing in all the F-8 options.

The thing is I there is some invoicing program installed and they charge some ridiculous amount to come and install it so I can't format and reload the machine.

I have tried repairing the xp thru a repair install but as soon as the windows bit starts up it reboots again.

I have very limited knowledge of the recovery console so I don't really wanna go mess around there:o

Any ideas? I've tried pretty much everthing I can think of incl changing ram,psu cd-rom.

Any help would be appreciated.

does it bluescreen first or just reboot?

try different ram

Just reboots, no error screen. It's like someone pressed the reset switch.

I did try swapping the ram:p

You could also try and take the HDD out of the machine and run a Virus Scan on the machine, after that perform a disk check and then try it again

jordan if it was a boot problem he would not even be able to get as far as the f8 menu now would he . . .

btw, welcome to mybb and congrats on your first (fail) post :p

I allready put the HDD in a diff PC and scanned with malware/spybot/Avast/AVG it took off a few nasties between them but I still have the same problem. Luckily I can access al the data so the drive/partition is completely intact.

I'm 99% certain it's a software issue that is buggering me around.I think something in windows went for a crap:p

I'll have to backup all the data and format the pc.Sigh.....

If I cant get it to work I'm gonna advise the people to move to pastel/quickbooks so atleast you can install your own software as they don't force you pay callout fees by witholding the installation discs.

Terrible business practise imo:mad:

Thanx for all the advice, keep it comig. Might yet find something that works:D

Try and reboot to the "restore point" it should be a F8 function. I have had this problem before and the last good restore point should fix it.... That is, it you created one. ;) Good luck.

There has to be a way to get the BSOD message text, this will give us a clue as to how to solve the problem.

I know that in Windows XP SP3 that they added an option in the F8 menu that stops the auto-reboot, but I don't know if your version has this option, and i'm too lazy to look it up for you.

If you read his post correctly, you'll notice he said it happens with ALL F8 settings.

Check your PSU as well.....i have come across this a couple of times, where a faulty or insufficient PSU will restart a PC ;)

I had the same problem with a PC last weekend. Turned out there was a BSOD, but it was rebooting so quickly it was difficult to catch. In the F8 options towards the bottom there was an option to not automatically reboot after a stop error. The stop error itself was 0x00000024 which pointed to an issue with NTFS.sys and possible disk corruption.

I took out the disk and put it in another machine and ran chkdsk /r after backing up the data. This fixed the problem. Hope this helps.
